Specialist court work: consultations, assessment and therapeutic services for family
work requested by courts and local authorities
I am an experienced systemic family psychotherapist. In my NHS practice I teach
and train, and undertake clinical work at the internationally-renowned Tavistock
Centre.
In my private practice I provide assessments and reports for the Family Courts in
child care and contact cases. I carry out effective therapeutic interventions in
adoption, fostering and care cases. I have worked in the statutory and voluntary
sector with children and families in different contexts, including court-mandated
assessment and treatment work in complex child protection cases. I have appeared
as an Expert Witness in Court proceedings, and have worked for the Family Court Service.
My specialist assessments include:
- Systemic family, and siblings’ assessments; e.g. siblings’ attachment assessment
for helping with decisions about children's permanence and finalising adoption placements.
- Parenting assessments, which include capacity to change.
- Psychosocial, psycho-educational and family interventions; i.e. a holistic approach
which involves family members in the process of change through gaining knowledge
and insight into what is inhibiting attuned parenting. These assessments include
thorough examination and treatment of attachment disruptions, which interfere with
parents’ capacity to regulate their emotions and put their children’s needs to the
forefront.
- My systemic training allows me to provide culturally competent assessments which
consider different parenting styles and attitudes originating from very different
non-western ways of bringing up children. I can engage parents across cultures to
examine these highly sensitive issues with transparency and respect.
- I have also worked with domestic abuse, domestic violence and sexual abuse including
the impact of this on children's development and well-being.
My therapeutic support covers a wide range of areas: family mediation, relationships
and couple work, attachment work, protective behaviour work and work on surviving
sexual and domestic abuse.
